Make sure to tune into Hornby Islands community radio station this summer on 96.5 FM. It’s worth a listen.
Hornby radio has done well in the On Air test that ran from June 23rd until July 13th. We would like to thank all the participating DJ’s who for 3 weeks diligently did what our requirement was during that period. Every 15 minutes is double our usual required two ID’s every hour and your enthusiasm is much appreciated.
Peter Cloud Panjoyah can be thanked specifically for offering his phone number and saving us from every one of the 35 – 50 CHFR DJ’s having to log the responses from our announcement.
We’re not done yet as the title of this article reveals though. It is a reasonable demand to say that Hornby Island should be able to receive on the frequency modulating dial 96.5 Hornby radio without much trouble. This includes difficult locations like Mt. Road, Whaling Station, Phipps Point or even Ford Cove. Hornby Island’s topography is a challenging situation for FM coverage with the population spread out around the shores and one broadcast location at Joe King expected to reach all. This is what the situation is right now, and we will know more in the near future as we might redo this test in the early fall, so buckle your seat-belts folks. Some times I personally think it’s like kids in the backseat of a car saying “are we there yet?”. No kids, there is more to go.
If you by chance hear a pre-recorded show or “encore” recording then that’s a sign that we are continuing our 120 hour plus a week broadcast schedule with a non-live show. Always a live DJ is the preference but you need to be trained, willing and consistent to maintain a show of your own, it is a serious responsibility. Summer has brought us talented returning Hornbyites who have filled in for others so well. Thanks especially to them since it takes so many to keep the ball rolling.
CHFR has no staff but just the people you hear and the volunteer board and endless efforts by Islanders who support the community radio station.
