Tomorrow night at 9pm here on CHFR, our new late night Saturday show, Spin Off, will feature Canada and the USA (in honour / honor of the past week, in which we had both Canada Day and the Fourth of July). I’ve amassed an impressive collection of songs about both countries, from all sorts of angles.
Songs about Canada tend to be affectionate and ironic, while songs about America tend to be either patriotic or enraged. Interesting contrast. Thought there are always exceptions to both rules. Tune in for some conversation and a lot of music, exploring the theme of borders, neighbouring countries, the personalities of countries and affection, irony, patriotism and, yes, rage. Not to mention songs, lots of songs. Last week I went until 1am because I had so much music. This week could well go that late, we’ll see. Tune in to find out. It’s Saturday night.
